Fred - This comment piqued my interest so I did some investigating. I'm a Mechanical Engineer focusing on corrosion resistance for military systems and I manage plating companies in many cases. Although some lv runs will develop a dark bronze/purple color, I agree it is definitely not the colour tone of black within the Centurion card.
I termed as a friend at American Express and confirmed that their official claim is which the card is constructed from anodized titanium. I think that this card will be hard coated with Titanium Aluminum Nitride, a standard coating for tools requiring a thicker and harder surface than traditional Anodizing, that may offer the rich black coating that's seen on the credit card. Although similar to look at, the coating will be applied using a physical vapor deposition process as an alternative to electrolyte solution like anodizing.
If Amex's target clientele were the engineering community, they are able to advertise that this card is constructed out of PVD hard coated titanium for superior wear resistance.

Amex cardholder since 2000… Centurion card member since 2004… Changed to titanium around or in 2004 because I never got a plastic version… Original titanium was probably the most stiff and toughest sliver of metal I've ever seen or felt, bordering about the edge of being dangerous mainly because it weaponized your wallet… It originally was definitely anodized somehow simply because they had to utilize a carbide grinder to file for off the black from your top surface with the numbers in order that they were visible, exposing micro-evidence with the coating.
However, they changed everything amid the financial meltdown… Still titanium, but I may now actually bend the bloody thing with iPhone 6 bend-gate pressures, whereas an original titanium could have likely cantilever suspended a smaller car. And the anodizing is totally different although looks similar. They no more grind from the tops with the numbers and it also looks just like a completely different manufacturing process. Also, the modern cards feature chips embedded, standard throughout the pond. I'm guessing most of these changes were directly cost-savings related.
I do miss the gregarious boldness on the original titanium, which turned heads and demanded double-takes virtually 100% from the time, but within the spirit of functionality, the non plus ultra rigidity on the card meant it failed on many card readers, which apparently assume some amount of flexibility in the cardboard with their spring-loaded magnetic read-head. Of course, that posed an issue when kiosk flight checkins took over as norm about a 50% failed-swipe rate leading to a 95% failed-swipe rate for virtually any NYC MTA kiosk (yes, some Centurion cardholders happen to be known to consider the subway).

amex concierge matches the regular bank cards.. i realize a person who work in the concierge company that runs both amex, visa black card and citi bank.

Not exactly, you will get the same person within the phone, nevertheless the Centurion Card member could possibly get priority over all the others, each and every time.

I benefit AMEX, Centurion receives a dedication local travel agent, and also a dedicated concierge. AMEX out sources many services for Green, Blue, Open cards etc, although not for Platinum and Centurion. Think about it, could you really want some alternative party agent handling your clients who bring you from the bulk of your dollars,,
deank
just curious since you benefit amex, but iv realized that some on the centurion cards have gold writing and graphics and many have silver, could be the a reason or meaning compared to that,
thank you

Might be non-US and US cards. I'm not sure currently, but some time ago the non-US cards were plastic, but not coated with titanium, and so i guess there could've been other diffrences aswell.
Timothy Melzer
The cards are black with silver writing depending around the light and angle in the pictures your thinking about, it may look goldish within the black. (The writing in earlier years looked more bronze) In 2000 til 03 roughly my black card was plastic this switch to one of the best heavy titanium and as being the years progressed the cardboard has become much lighter in weight. I'm assuming given that they mix along with other metals now due for the cost factor. I've had about 40 approximately replacements since 2000 on account of loss, magnetic strip, plus a couple of times charges appeared in statement that weren't mine to make sure they changed my card etc. There is often a dedicated support services Centurian # that's diverse from all other AMEX cards.

In the greeting card agreement section you will notice two different banks that service the greeting card, maybe that may be the reason to the different colors, Just speculating, I do not be positive about this. I have only see 2 of these cards used around my life. Once was in Vegas, go figure, right. LOL
Jeremy Whitt
Centurion cardholder given that they first traveled to Titanium around 2004… Yes, I've noticed under certain lighting conditions, the colors” apparently shift from silver to gold-ish or appear as two colors. It's never what I would consider true gold”… I think people perceive two colors around the pre-economic crisis cards since the stuff on the card that changed (number, name, exp date) was all raised meta lettering then ground away from the anodized black to show a shiny silver color as well as the rest from the branding and design in the card was somehow part in the printing / anodizing process carried out to every card. So under studio” lighting, it looked exactly a similar color, but under varying angles and varying lighting conditions out from the real world, these different techniques render different perceived colors and may even be the root cause from the notion that you have two separate colors. 5 months ago I got accepted for 300K credit limited for any gold American Express, I spend around 200K monthly, and I been an American express card holder for 5 months and also a few days ago I received a Black Amex invitation and I responded back and I recieved my charge card 5 days after and I haven't any credit limited, I paid the fees I needed to repay.
Financialtiming
Elvis Johnson , may I ask - are you from the US, Many have said there amex hasn't delivered invites…did you express interest or did they visit you, Congratulations - I think it's really a card worthy on the fees!

Yes Financialtiming I are in US. And no I didn't express interest, it found me.

I just got a party invitation yesterday via UPS in this particular nice box. Inside became a business card instructing to call them to use that said centurion as well as a code. I've spent $120-$300k on a monthly basis consistently for two years and finally got it on my own 2 year aniversary like clock work. I've called many times inside the past to convey interest, but stopped about half a year ago. I just qualified and I should recieve in approximately 3 days. I think they've made their qualfications tighter because i had been expecting it on my small first years anniversary. I have a home in CA. Fees are because they post, $7500 initiation + $2500 yearly. Good luck.
Kimberly Rotter
Wow, congrats! And have you been accepting the invitation, I'm curious to be aware what perks you value most. Which benefits make the credit card worth the price,
Jeremy Whitt
Centurion card member since 2004-ish… So saw the enormous growth and plateau of Centurion memberships… Well, I'm now kind of inside big-M Marketing” world so I could have a different perspective than most folks both aspiring for any Centurion card as well as the aloof 1% of 1%'ers… But is really a quick answer ranking Centrion Card Perks from the statistical sample sized One:
1) IMHO, by far the most valuable perk is Airline / Lounge / Rental / Hotel premiere status. I figure I'd should fly around 200,000 actual flight miles on over 200 trips covering maybe 150 hotel nights to equal the qualification statuses… Per Year. Now, unfortunately, I come near to about half that, but finding the flexibility to optimize hub-hops is large for my type of work (and pleasure). Sure I'm loyal… To Centurion! LOL … P.S. I've also done some simple analytics and financially, this really is hands-down the very best direct ROI from a significant initial and annual investment inside Centurion card, presuming you create virtually all your meaningful personal and business purchases with Centurion.
2) Centurion Lounges - Absolutely the most effective lounges in almost any US airport, bordering for the BA and Sing lounges that top the charts globally. Consistenly have gourmet REAL food and constantly have multiple HEALTHY options. I feel like I'm at movie-night when I hit the foodstuff bar in any respect the other CROWDED domestic lounges. Only drawback could there be are only a couple of them, for now…
3) MARKETING - I think deep down the spot where you don't speak about at parties, any Centurion card holder will sheepishly admit that one in the top perks, in any other case THE TOP perk would be the marketing (self-promotion) aspect of like a black card member. Probably don't need to express much more to do with this…
4) And perhaps my personal favorite part of their customer satisfaction is they recognize my damn phone when I call and I don't need to go through a crazy menu and enter anything!!! … It's the small things that matter, really.
5) Stellar customer satisfaction… Not really referring to the concierge service, as I don't require that kind of thing with my staff.
6) Website… Not really a Centurion thing, though the Amex moethership mobile app and website are head and shoulders a lot better than all in the other majors in just about any UX/UI aspect. Am I man or woman that cringes every time I open the franken-app monstrosity that Citi launched a year ago, LOL… Yikes.
Kimberly Rotter
Wow, thanks to the detailed feedback. Very helpful description with the perks. I would agree that they can sound well really worth the fees for individuals who can fully make the most.

Is there a yearly amount that that you are required to spend to help keep the Centurion,
Technically (contractually), NO, I usually do not believe there can be a minimum annual amount… However, they seem to own multiple global out-clauses” into their fine-print, including the section that states they reserve the legal right to re-evaluate your eligibility for Centurion without notice and presumably downgrade one to a mere” Platinum cardholder. I've been told off-the-record that this would be the veiled threat or mechanism they use to motivate Centurion Black Cardholders maintain their 6-digit spending.
I once went annually where I only spent around $60,000 (over the depths from the financial crisis) and didn't hear a peep from other underwriters… So that's at the very least one data-point that appears for being above the lower-threshold for triggering a Centurion eligibility re-evaluation.
I will share one related event together with you. Around 2014, Centurion did some kind of Membership audit where no less than some with the Centurion cardholders were inspired to provide a most curious kind of information in order to take care of Centurion cardholder status (or perhaps downgraded to Platinum). So… The Centurion auditors didn't keep asking net-worth, portfolio, or assets under management… They didn't even would like to know income, taxation assessments, or credit rating… All they wanted was proof that I had a minimum of an average of some minimum amount (I think around $100,000) in cold hard cash, or cash-equivalents, in the bank account for something similar to the past 6-months. So I proceeded to right away emailed them some bank statement PDFs and in addition they almost immediately called me back and thanked me for as being a valued Centurion cardholder, blah, blah, blah… They didn't disclose your minimum threshold, all the trainer told us was that I exceeded the threshold after which hinted who's was around that aforementioned $100,000 mark… They also made some vague suggestion that I may not be audited again or the audit was over, but I didn't begin depth with these on that closing comment.
So yes, there is no less than one data-point suggesting they actually do possess some mechanism to test” cardholders after to become member… But there doesn't immediately appear to become a firm” annual spend minimum when you become a Centurion cardholder, if not if it does exist, it's reasonably low.
Hmequity
Thank you. It's not well worth the cost. When I build the account they walked me through subscribing to elite memberships with Delta, Hertz, Hilton, Starwood, etc. I have better perks with my chase paladium card. For instance 50,000 points will be worth about $800 in purchasing power. With Centurion 50,000 is approximately $400 or less, and so the points have precisely the same value as being the Platinum AMEX. More of merely a status thing or high-end item. Definitely more than worth it from that standpoint. Hope that can help.
Perez
Does that mean $7500.00 the initial year and $2500.00 per following year, Or will it mean $10000.00 for the initial year and 2500.00 for every single following year, just curious!!
Hmequity
It's $7500 put in place fee + $2500 annual membership = $10,000. It will show up in your first bill. Unfortunately, it doesn't get points for this. I now take over both a platinum and centurion. Cool thing is which the points check out a single membership rewards account. I still make use of the platinum to get gas or with the convenience stores plus the centurion everywhere else.
RAY H
7,500 is initiation, plus 2,500 annual. Your first bill can have a $10,000 total fee for both. My first bill was spending amount plus $12,500 10k for my card and two,500 for my significant other.

Hi Elvis,
We recently changed for the Amex Platinum card two months ago and possess roughly $350k in spend. Reading this post it appears the Centurion invite will take $1m each year plus over the 2 year period,
RAY H
I've been a Biz platinum card member since 1999 and over days gone by 8 years have charged the normal annually between 3.5-4MILLION across 3 cards. I use it heavily for work and private, i put everything about it. After 4 years as well as a lot of begging and screaming I first got it a BIZ CENTURION invite to put on this October 2015. For me the worthiness is inside personalized service and something on one relationship with the travel service and VIP entry to sold out events, restaurants, etc. Also as a Mandarin oriental, Starwood hotels fan, the advantages do work during my favor. So far I am happy with the greater personalized service inside travel arena as I travel a great deal. If I didn't I would donrrrt you have this card for that cost. ORANGE COUNTY Calif…

Has anyone received a Amex Centurion invitation this year inside the US, I am hoping first too!
Kimberly Rotter
Zane Carmichael
I do not think you need a party invitation if you qualify. (Multi Million dollar networth with fairly comfortable living) - Just refer to them as and say to them how much you are making and spend, in case you it's along this lines and they also should respond well.
Brendan Harkness
@zanecarmichael:disqus That makes sense in my experience - I think in this case you're basically asking for a party invitation, knowning that sounds just like a good idea should you want the greeting card.
Albert einstien
have distributed to us is so great, nice effort!!
Patrick Perotti
Platinum Amex sadly not even gets you admission to airport lounges.
That isn't fault of Amex, but of monopolists like UA which utilize a ‘my way or even the highway' procedure for their business.
But on the other hand, monopoly have their privileges.
Kimberly Rotter
I think this will depend on travel habits. Lounge access diminished but didn't disappear completely. If I'm not mistaken, platinum holders still get entry into Centurion lounges, Delta lounges, Airspace lounges and Priority Pass Select lounges. I've heard that for Delta flyers, the greeting card's benefits are still definitely worth the cost. For flyers on airlines that dropped it, not really much.

When I turned 15 my gift from my mom was obviously a AMEX Black Card, to begin with I started spending around $20K monthly. But when I turned 18 I didn't needed to use my moms black Amex anymore, I wanted to obtain my own black Amex so my parents forced me to be to get one. Which it wasn't that difficult because basically I being having my own checking account since I was decade old and basically when I turned 18 I inherited my grandpas money so with the age of 18 I had around $29M. So when I called Amex to ask for that card they basically asked me just how much I had during my bank account and where I work and the amount I made yearly, I reported that I failed but I had $29M within the bank knowning that I inherited an organization which I could well be making around 5-10M yearly. So next thing you recognize they did not inquired about more questions and they also basically congratulated me because I basically qualified for that black Amex

Unfortunately you're just telling stories. In one post you say you would spend 200K a month and you say spent 20K on a monthly basis above.

I am a AMEX black card holder moving into Japan and I must say this card totally doesn't worth for what it can be charging for. I find several exposure to AMEX Centurion Concierge not being helpful whatsoever, they definitely do NOT go the additional mile.
I have called for my replacement card caused by mistake they made on my own display name on the greeting card since fourteen days ago, and yes it took them 4 days to check on, 72 hrs to reprint, two days to involve DHL, and 5 days to send the greeting card by DHL Express, from UK to Tokyo. I have called AMEX more than once to follow in the status, and they do is apologize politely saying it really is in process and handle in urgent manner, or say it can be DHL's fault.
AMEX Centurion charges 3% on currency exchange settlement, although I call to ask the tutor said all of their competitors were charging a similar, but as outlined by my investigate market rate in Japan is 1.6%, nearly half of AMEX Centurion charge. I understand those that holds a Centurion card are in all likelihood ultra rich and this also minor charges probably make almost no to no difference, but I do not like how they answer without responsibility.
AMEX Centurion's travel desk picks in the call 24/7 but really doesn't provide service for the same basis, when the quotation comes home 48 hours, there really isn't a difference from local local travel agency, never to mention they'd forgotten sending me quotation before.
When I originally researched this card, I found that cardholders in Asia were much more likely to become dissatisfied. This is definitely an unscientific conclusion that may be only dependant on my report on online comments, though the point is always that I found that customers in China and Japan were more inclined to find the card for being NOT well worth the cost. Please update us if your Centurion support services team comes through and impresses you!
TM
Just saw this post, well written. I must trust Eric that I haven't thought it was useful as well as close for the value with the annual fee. I'm in Canada but heard that this U.S. has better concierges. Canadian concierge is the identical team in terms of Platinum cardholders.

I likes for someone with all the card to answer exactly how many points/dollars you have from spending $250,000/year on this card. I currently utilize a Citi 2% money back card, and so would receive $5,000 in cash return rewards annually (along with the additional $2,500 that AMEX charges with regards to card). Do you really obtain the equivalent of $7,500 in points,
Del Indian
No, you'd probably receive 250,000 points which can be worth about $2,500. The value and savings come in the status with assorted travel partners. The virtually-free companion tickets are usually valuable, too.
The points are highly transferable, compared to racking up dollars and miles with individual airline carriers and hotel chains through their respective bank card affinity programs.

I have a very Amex Biz card that I simply use for making large buy for my company and spend about 300K each year on projects. All budgets are paid back from loans that are the draws on the bank. This way I get for getting some points back for using the credit card without stress about the bill being paid. I would think by know I are certain to get a invitation for that black card. Do anyone understand how long you need for being doing this to obtain the invite,
agravic c
has anyone used the replica card from , I ordered one possibly at 1st I didn't really know what to think about them. After 72 hrs of using it I must say i thought this was way better next the fee amex wants to the real one. I still get my points plus the look on peoples faces is priceless!

Hi everybody,
I'm a Platinium Amex holder since 5 many i reside in Italy.
Amex actually called me and mentioned if I was interested inside Centurion and I said yes.
They laughed and said that I would be for the list of examination” or evaluation” with the black card.
Some
time passed and I was without any news so I called them and asked if I
was declined and they also told me that Amex releases the Black card only
twice annually in January along with May/June.
Does someone make sure Amex releases the black card only twice annually…, I think it is strange….
Cheers!!
Del Indian
When I called about upgrading from Platinum I was given a certain date for that next open window that was months away. I believe it absolutely was June 1, and I understood it turned out the only opening to the year. That was obviously a bit a lot more than ten a long time ago so it could possibly have changed, or I can have inferred something was incorrect in regards to the number of annual windows. Note so it was not invitation-only. I asked. I then calendared to arise early that June 1 and call exactly at 3 am PDT when it absolutely was 6 am EDT as well as the Amex office (situated in Florida) was only opening. The personnel put me through two credit rating checks while I held, first a standard one and after that one that examined my Amex use to ascertain if I met the Black Card criteria. It took no a lot more than a number of minutes to get informed of approval. At the time it had been $5,000 for initiation so that usually have increased. Yes, it really is worth it. My favorite perquisite probably is Avis' Chairman's Club membership. We involve some great stories in regards to the service. The best likely is when my lady was driving Italy and he or she had a problem which has a car late inside the evening. The Avis representative brought her a different car very quickly-and I do mean new. My wife reports that it would have been a BMW (you will find free upgrades) with 10 miles onto it (or possibly kilometers). Avis choose to go and purchased a brand new car on her.
The Avis VIP valet service is really a life-saver when returning towards the airport with all the rental car (an Avis rep jumps within the car along with you and drives you straight towards the terminal-no waiting for just a shuttle and transfer of luggage through the car for the shuttle). In Miami or Ft. Lauderdale, Avis brought us two cars right towards the dock after the cruise because there was no nearby Avis office. This took three Avis personnel along with an extra car to achieve. With young kids in tow this would have been a tremendous help us.
There might be more but I realize these stories are certainly not directly about Centurion so I'll hang on a minute. But, remember, this really is but one benefit. The reserved restaurant tables (saved Mother's Day in 2010) and ticket availability for sold-out events (think good Orchestra seats for Hamilton for any specific date we were to get in New York) may also be great benefits but we find that this various money-saving Centurion travel enhancements are what justify the fee. The Centurion travel desk is dedicated for the Black Card members and is particularly quite good.
The card also works nicely for opening overly-taped packages.
So, in case you do require a Black Card and have an Amex Card that you consistently and also at volume levels, simply call and enquire of.

Centurion member since 03, what I have noticed will be the great benefits we used to obtain are quickly disappearing. Once you turn into a member, you have all the upgrades for airlines, hotels and vehicle rentals. Over the last several years, Centurion members choosing a lump sum upgrades in all of the above mentioned categories. Not sure who posted you receive a extra member card as part from the deal, every card is $2,500.00 each year! You and your wife, $5,000.00 per annum. Is it worth the cost, My opinion is NO. The perks are not worthy on the prestigious mystery packing every one of the hidden goodies open to Black Card members. It does turn heads should you pull that bad boy out but who cares. I first got it to tie into the many other is the reason for my businesses. I also contain the Black Card - Visa, such a JOKE! Not worth the cost, no perks with that particular. Save your money in case you need perks and wish Amex got to your Platinum card, equally as many upgrades with thousands less a year in Memberships. JMHO!
